Oily Scalp and Dandruff? We Might Have the Answer You're Looking For.

Having to wash every day? Struggle with flakes and dandruff? It turns out an oily scalp & dandruff is a common combination and difficulty for a lot of people.

First, let's understand what's happening. Why does your scalp do this?

Well, first thing to consider is the product you're using. Unfortunately, a lot of products on the salon or drug store shelves in the US are packed full of chemicals and ingredients that can cause imbalance in oil production or a negative reaction with your scalp.

The most common culprit is silicones. These cause a plastic layer that builds up on your hair and your scalp overtime. Your scalp, naturally should not look so oily at the end of the day that you're needing to shower again. Watch the video below "Silicone Buildup" to see visually what we're talking about:

So what products should you start with?

First things first, it's important to make sure all of your haircare ingredients are free of silicones as we discussed before. I recommend an all or nothing approach. If you're using a silicone free styling product yet your shampoo contains silicones, what good are you doing your scalp and hair?

MONAT is my favorite haircare line being non-toxic but still clinically proven to perform to get the results you're looking for. Here are a few must haves for oily, dandruff scalps!

Scalp Scrub

Just as you exfoliate your face, your scalp will appreciate the same treatment.

It's made with pink clay which serves as a highly effective scalp purifying agent that functions as both a physical exfoliant and a cleansing agent to help cleanse the scalp and remove dead skin cells.

Purifying Vinegar Shampoo

Sounds strange, right? Well, it turns out that apple cider vinegar serves

to help dissolve sebum buildup while cleansing, refreshing, conditioning, and improving the gloss of damaged hair. Don't worry, it doesn't smell anything like vinegar.

The Champ Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo... every girls best friend! Especially if you have an oily scalp. However it's key to make sure you're using a safe dry shampoo. A lot of dry shampoos out there contain butane, propane and talc... something you want to stay away from as some of these ingredients are what we use to light our gas grill. Gross!
